Bi fold doors 90 degrees

Are you fed up of the same interiors for so many years? Don’t worry. This article on bi fold doors can give a special touch to your interiors and add more value to your house.

Bi fold doors are popular replacements for the sliding doors or the swing out doors. This is due to the fact that they need lesser space to open. One major advantage of bi fold doors is that they can fold back thereby giving access to everything inside especially the closets. Bi fold doors as the name suggests are two doors which are joined together with hinges. This enables the door to fold over each other thereby not needing a lot of space to open and close.

Mechanism involves no hinges at the jambs in the side. Brackets are placed at the corners of the door around which the doors pivot. The door is guided by a roller track arrangement. Bi fold doors are either made of wood or plastic. The standard height of this door is either 6 feet 8 inches or 7 feet. The advantage of using a wooden bi fold door is that in case it does not fit into the frame you can trim them. This is not possible with a plastic door. Bi fold doors however can also be custom made to fit any size doors or closets.

Bi fold doors are available in kits which contains various things necessary for fitting the door. Materials found in the kit include the handles, pivot brackets, track and pivot pins. The stop molding used on the frame of the door has to be purchased separately as this is not part of the kit.

A careful decision has to be made on the number of door requirements after measuring the frame. Doors are available as one two door unit or more than one two door units. A standard frame for example requires only a single two door unit as the door folds back to cover one side of the frame. If the frames are wider, two units are necessary on both sides. To open and close the door with ease, it is important to make sure they fit properly in the opening.

The installation process is very simple for a standard sized door frame. All you need to do is to mount the molding to the jambs, attach the track which slides to the jamb on top, pivot brackets to be screwed to the corners and have the doors put in place. All these have to be done after ascertaining that the frame properly fits the door.

Whether the frame properly fits the door can be checked with the help of a framing square. A framing square will help you check if the corners are at 90 degree angles. If the frame does not fit properly the door will not fold or shut properly when installed. Frames which are slightly out of alignment can be adjusted with wooden wedges called shims. After clearing the trims, the exposed gaps between the frame and the jamb can be filled with shims and adjusted till it perfectly fits. Bi fold doors fitted properly on perfect 90 degree corners are long lasting and extremely useful and functional. They are also elegant to look at and add beauty to the room.
